Could a Mexican Fender Telecaster be suited for Pop Punk?

I have been after a cheap one for a coupl of weeks as I liked the sound of my old copy but is it really wise?

They seem awesome to me!

Yes, but it depends on your amp more so than your guitar.

You can actually get some really good distortion sounds out of a tele, only you need a good amp. Fallout Boy use tele's, as do the All American Rejects. But they use really expensive amps (Mesa triple recitfier and vox AC30)

Patrick uses SG's and Joe uses various LP's.

And Relient K is christian rock

it really depends on the amp, make your own sound,

i used a telecaster for a while, but i put a Seymour Duncan Lil' 59 in the bridge to beef up the tone a bit. But ive since moved on to a vox ac30, and a les paul....if youre going to use a tele, make sure you use a beefy amp, the tele sounds thin on a vox ac30 to me.

Is Joe the other guy from Fall Out Boy? Cos I swear, I've seen him with a tele. When they played on Conan's show and messed up. I lol'd.

I do have a feeling he uses them now and then but i'm sure the majority of the time its LP varients.

Billie Joe used a Tele for his side band, Pinhead Gunpowder. He also did use a Tele during the Nimrod era, but that was a Tele Custom/Deluxe with a humbucker at the bridge and a tele neck.

I think Joe or whatever his name is from Fall Out Boy is using some kind of strange guitar. Not sure of the brand but it definitely isn't an LP. Seen from their video This Ain't a Scene, blah blah...

Yeah it would be great, as long as you have a decent amp/setup.

Any guitar can do anything (within reason, no hollowbodies with super high distortion), there doesn't have to be a famous person out there to make it so.

Take that Tele and play what you want on it

If you're talking about real pop-punk (the Ramones, the Queers, Descendents, etc.) then yes.

If you're talking about pop-rock (Green Day, Blink 182, etc.) then I'd go for something with a humbucker, but a Tele probably wouldn't be too bad. Maybe look at a Schecter PT? It's a tele body style with humbuckers if I remember right.

Worst comes to worst you just put a hot rail in the Telecaster.

Ahh thanks for the input, Think I will continue the search!

What do you guys think about this? I think its pretty special: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180107435571&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=008

Looks cool to me, Schecter is a good brand. I dunno how great it is though. I wouldn't buy it off ebay without ever seeing it in person.

Totally, tele's are great for any kind of power chord music, they've got a really great snap to them.
