So I went into the Classic Rock forum and did not see a thread like this one. So I did a search, swear to god I must have looked through ten pages of search results, but no Hendrix thread. So here we are, just chat away.

Gallagher2006 is pretty sure there is one.... I can't help but think there is one too... Did you type in Jimi Hendrix Experience? or did you try just Jimi Hendrix?
#5
*reported*

Actually, there is one a little bit further down the page that discusses his lyrics. You can just go and talk about anything Hendrix you want in that thread.

^ I dunno, that's a specific topic about Hendrix's lyrics, this is about his band. If we were to just talk about hendrix in the other thread, that title should be changed. Otherwise this thread seems fine to me.

There IS a hendrix thread in the blues forum, but that hasn't been used since February.

In conclusion, I really like Hey Joe.

Whatever the consensus is, I'll go with it. I just don't think we need two Hendrix threads in the forum.

I don't think having two threads is really gonna matter.

Anyways, I think that Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding are severely underated.

Mitch Mitchell is a spectacular drummer. He really was the only guy Jimi could play off of in the Experience. Redding didn't really offer Jimi much to jam with.

Whats with all the Noel Redding recently? I think he is a great bassist. - anyone who backs up Hendrix had to be good.

If we're going to be anal though, that's not specifically the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

I'm shocked and surprisied there isn't a big hendrix thread. I'll try to keep this one going.

Mitch Mitchells is my favourite drummer ever, IMO he's better then bonham, paice....
#23
Mitch is definitely an awesome drummer. Very unappreciated when people talk about the best drummers of the era. He played with one of the best guitarists of his era and of all time and he refused to be overshadowed.

Jimi Hendrix will always be the greatest guitarist to me, and if I ever doubt that I'll just pop in Live at Woodstock, he was on a whole other planet. I'm reading "Electric Gypsy" right now, seems ok.

Why should there be a huge Hendrix thread? Just post a thing about Weed & Feedback; that's all he was. It was a lot of noise, pointless noise. You people are too wrapped up in stuff that is overated and not that great. You need to look at the big picture instead of being glued to this pointless propaganda. Just because VH1 puts Zeppelin, Hendrix, and Sabbath up in their top choices does NOT mean they are that great.

There should be a huge hendrix thread because had a huge impact. I don't watch VH1, or buy Rolling Stone or whatever, and I'm still a massive fan.

Weed and feedback? The reason hendrix is so great is not because he made a lot of "pointless noise", but he was one of the first people to use the guitar in such a creative way. It might seem like pointless noise to you, but bacik then it was ground-breaking. All the pick slides, whammy abuse, feedback, and much of the soling used in rock today has some affinity with hendrix.

And then listen to little wing and tell me that that is a lot of pointless noise. And castles made of sand. Or the wind cries mary.

Just because VH1 puts Zeppelin, Hendrix, and Sabbath up in their top choices does NOT mean they are that great.

The fact that they still have millions of fans even today does.

Any of the stuff on Axis: Bold as Love is so much more than feedback drenched acid rock (well, except for the first track).

i read it as well. he lead one of the loneliest and saddest lives i've ever heard of.

he's my biggest influence, anyone who bashes him just hasn't been paying attention.

regarding mitch mitchell, he's one of the best drummers in history IMO, he was working a 3 piece to it's max, filling in a bunch of sound, he was great.

the one move i hated by hendrix was adding Billy Cox to Bass, he was brutal, but Jimi needed a friend on the road.

Haha...I have Hendrix # 3 on my greatest guitarists list...and in mu Top 5 or 10 favorite artists...

Yet I agree slightly... He was mainly drugged out lyrics and distortion and noise...
#40
For all those who think he was drugged out and distorted all the time, just listen to Axis: Bold as Love. He is rarely distorted on that record and some of the sounds he coaxes out of his guitar are just gorgeous.

Little Wing might be the most beautiful song ever recorded...
