Lol, are you serious? He could get an Ibanez for around $800. Look into the S and RG series.

If you're after something with a fast neck and a locking trem, look into some of higher end Ibanez RG's, 1527? or something like that. Jacksons are quite renowned for "shredability" And you can look into some ESP/LTD's at the 400 series and above.

Those tend to be the main contenders.

I once used an SG on stage. I killed three people in the front row and I was only tuning up. It's THAT powerful.

three words: not a shredder.

the usual suspects have been mentioned already
Ibanez rg1570
maybe look at some of the S series. you might want to change the pickups on them though.

Jackson guitars seem ok but the decent ones cost a fair bit. plus they're only really good for metal. (shred isnt always metal)

ESP may be out of our price range, if so look at ltd. However these are like the jacksons, only really good for metal.

So does Rusty Cooley I think. Or he did.

Look into some 7-strings aswell.

Pantera may not have been a shred band, but MAB himself confirmed that Dimebag could play his (MAB's) stuff, so Dimebag = shredder.

If you don't believe me check his obituray to Dimebag.

And yes, Rusty Cooley now has a signature Dean.

I maintain that you do not need a special guitar to shred, you need to practice, I'll bet I can shred on an ES-335.

here here. i'm not much of a shredder, more blues-y. but i also understand the point of the question. thin necks, jumbo frets, locking nuts, good tremolo, etc. they all help.

make sure not to overlook the tone of the guitar too. make sure you like how it sounds as well as feels.

Ibanez guitars are good for shred, but then so are Jacksons, ESPs and even Peaveys (lol).

Anyway, shred's all about the action for me. I seriously do not play any faster or better on an Ibanez than I do on my guitars.

best bet is to learn to shred on an Ibanez or similar. I would go ibanez because i have one! Then once you've got decent grasp of shred you can do it on anything really. youtube as plenty of shredders on LP's

lol so ur the one eating all of yingwie's donuts!

but yea the ultimate shred machine is the ibanez..., ibanez does carry the thinnest fastest neck around the guitar companies. Come on now someone recommending a Gibson made me lol, and a soloist with neck-thru can get troublesome if its sticky. But yea it all depends how big ur hand is and wuts comfortable. just laying out the facts.
