I've been playing and taking guitar lessons for the past 8 months and, I'm really into Sublime and Bob, so i've been trying to learn some of there stuff but i don't know how to strum right to make that reggae sound. Does anybody have any pointers or tips on how to?

What these guys said mainly...

Also, a element, used ALOT in reggae, is, make the strumming on the offbeat, ie. 2-4-6-8 if you count as 8/8

3 pointers :

1:use treble strings (gbe)

2:use palm muting

3:learn about "one"" two "or "four drop rhtyhms ."

http://wayneandwax.org/lessons/root...m-tutorial.html

There's NO palm muting in reggae, it's all left hand muting.

Actually yeah, I suppose there's bits of it that crop up, but you can play reggae without it, you can't play it without left hand muting though....that's the technique that's used to get that distinctive "chika" sound.

Yea, while rock is played ever so slightly... microscopicly really, before the beat, reggae is played ever so microscopicly after the beat.

What's that term for playing around the beat? I think it starts with an S... lol.

WRONG!!!!! have you ever heard the song rivers of babylon? You can right hand "chuck" it with a hard half strum/half palm mute. Not just the left hand.

what everybody else has already said. the best chords to play with reggae/ska style is barre chords, but without the root notes.
