What are your favorite riffs, the ones that make you "feel" the music and the aggression? Bonus points if they are in Standard Tuning, because its alot harder to make something heavy without relying on drop-tuning.

Personally, my vote has to go to Walk by Pantera, super easy, nothing fancy, but every time I hear it I have to move around.
the opening riffs to Cleansing a Misguided Path by Psycroptic

the main riff to Spheres of Madness by Decapitated
Obiousally anythign for metallicas first couple albums.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Whip and Chains Excite Me!!

the walk riff is by far the heaviest **** ever, but is tuned down a full step and sounds like a yappy dog taking a crap in standard. therefore, any song off of Master Of Puppets by Metallica. the whole album theyre tuned standard, which is ****ing amazing. im not going to be the only person to say this, but its THE heavy metal riff in master of puppets which goes solo at about
if youre going to Pantera, then i've got to say the cowboys from hell riff, the lower one, ****ing CRANKED!! jesus christ that is so fun to play when you nail it
Confined by As I Lay Dying
Cowboys From Hell by Pantera

There are many heady riffs, these are just two songs that I know of off the top of my head.

I like all the Pantera flags that shoot up in this thread... Good to see. And I agree: ALL Pantera (especially the entire CFH album and some of Power Metal as well- the main riff of the title track melts faces)...
pretty much all black sabbath (Iommi wrote a crapload of really memorable heavy riffs)

and as for the downtuning thing, that doesn't really add much to the heaviness, it just makes it sound darker, theres a lot more to heaviness than massive low end.

lots of Iron Maiden does it for me, i like Paschendale, Blood Brothers, and Dance of Death the most...not sure if you count it all as heavy but whatevs

Besides the obvious, that one riff in To Breathe In A Casket by Necrophagist after the short pause and then 2 bass drum hits. Especially when it comes back later on with lyrics.

And by the obvious I mean Pantera and stuff, even though I'm not a huge Pantera fan.
