Okay. My friend just joined a band, and he's looking for an amp that will compliment his style of music, as well as the bands. He plays higher gained stuff like Lamb of God, and the band plays stuff like Artic Monkeys, Nirvana, etc.

I'm thinking he would be better off buying an amp that would compliment the pop-punk stuff, and adding an OD to it for LoG stuff.

Suggestions?

I was going to tell him to go tube, but I'm not sure where.

Peavey Classic 30, perhaps?

Don't get the line 6 six spider!
Tell him he should go tube.

He should definitely get a line 6 spider. I have a 212 combo and you can get great sound out of it for what ever style of music. plus its loud as hell.

Wrong.

The Classic 30 with an overdrive pedal sound like a good choice.

Not nearly enough gain for Lamb of God.

Maybe you could try a JCM 900, used DSL401, or used Peavey XXX 112.

Used Peavey XXX combo. A guy I know has one that's been retubed with EL34's and seems to do a good job with Lamb of God type tones. Not quite as nice as the Mark IV's they use, but a LOT less pricey :P

Guys, he's not looking for just LoG tones. He wants stuff like Artic Monkeys, Nirvana, and pop-punk style stuff, too. That is why I threw the Peavey Classic 30 out there, with an OD pedal. He would use the OD to get the LoGish tones.

But even the Peavey classic 30 with an OD won't be enough gain.

A dual channel jcm 800 combo, jcm 900 and dsl combo from marshall have great cleans, crunch and distortion. The Peavey XXX also has nice cleans and distortion. A Mesa Boogie F30 is also cool.

My Peavey XXX 112 combo can do ANYTHING now that I have retubed it with EL34s
