I can drive both.
I like to think I'm a manual man, but secretly I love automatic's more.
I hope it doesn't seem, like I'm young, foolish, and green.

Why's that?
Is the east side a bit dangerous on the old roads?

I've always driven auto, I can imagine if I did have a manual, somewhere down the line, I'll forget when to clutch, etc when I'm on a hill or something and totally **** up my car.

When I learn to drive I'll go manual. You have more control of the car, as opposed to the car in control of you. Plus you can go faster, push the car harder and there's a larger element of skill in manual

I was just gonna say does anyone drive a semi. Do the manual drivers prefer the H box or sequential gearing?

If you can drive a manual I think it goes without saying you can drive an automatic.

this guy knows the score. Autos, your arent in control.

I dont like it how they go "thud" when your driving along, and you can really hear the engine labouring.

Manuals for the win, when you get good at manual, you can make your car do pretty much anything.

To the manual drivers, of the ones you have used what do you prefer; sequential transmission, H box or "flappy paddles" (sorry couldn't think of the proper name). When I had my (one and only, I haven't got around to another) driving lesson I loved the feel of the H box, slamming on the clutch and thrashing it into next gear feels so good.

the "H" box. much easier. you dont need to mess around going through gears when downshifting, you just go straight there.

I drove a Lexus one time that had both manual and semi-manual. Easy to shift (wont mess up your tranny) and still enough control to really push it. It makes a huge difference. You can feel the drain it puts on the engine.

Yeah they're called flappy paddle gearboxes.
Other names include Semi-automatic transmission, or also known as clutchless manual transmission, automated manual transmission, e-gear, or paddle shift gearbox.
Something to do with electronics in the car making the need for a clutch pedal useless since it does that part for you, hence semi-automatic

There's DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox; H format shifting with automatic clutch) and Tiptronic/Steptronic (+/- shifting with automatic clutch). All of the terms you used are incorrect, and are just different kinds of those two automanual transmissions.

I prefer manual, though I drive an automatic. Not only do you get a little better gas mileage with the manual, an automatic transmission actually takes away 10% of the engine's actual power.

That, and manual is less prone to destruction in the proper hands, except for those idiots in high-performance cars who destroy the clutch.

Driving a manual car is nothing.

Driving 8 tons of copper on a 2 ton truck with a stick shift is a whole 'nother story.

I bet every manual driver here has at one time tried to act like James Bond and just floor it and end up grinding the gears when shifting.

Or maybe that's just me

I can kind of. I know how to and have a little bit. I just could never get it to start reliably without killing it... I drive an auto now, since that's all I have.
