I'm currently debating on getting a tube amp.

There are two that I'm currently pondering over. A Fender Blues Jr. and a used Crate VC30 (I believe.)

I'm wondering which one would be better, because I was told that I could gig with 15 watts of tube amp, which is what a Fender Blues Jr. has.

I don't want to go too big, but these are both nice amps. I'm very confused on which one I should go after.

I won't be gigging a lot, and when I do they will be mainly small gigs.

My musical tastes range from Phish and Widespread Panic to Megadeth and old Metallica.

no i dont think you can gig with 15 watts of tube. i would say 30 at the very least. depending on what size gig your playing.

whats your budget?

you can gig 30 watt tubes fine in a 300 odd capacity room, even better if your hooked up to a PA

as i said, you would want something louder. if you said phish to megadeth..i dont know really.

it might be ahrd to find an amp that does both of those really well. could you also sell your fender 85 and get some more cash?

I would like to hang on to the 85, considering I haven't seen too many of them around.

I'd go with the Crate V32. With twice the power, you'll have more clean headroom for live performances, and it's also capable of more gain on it's own than the Blues Jr. At $500 new for the 1x12, it's a great value, too.

I know you can gig with 15W, but 30W is much more ideal.
You Don't Need a halfstack.

You Don't Need 100W.
