To start off, I think we can all agree that tube amps GENERALLY have much more sound, tone, and "life" to them than solid state/modeling amps. We can also all agree that solid state amps are much easier to maintain and travel with (no worrying about tube replacement, etc.) So, I was wondering what some of the higher end solid state amps are, because I don't know of any. I believe that what everyone would want is a solid state amp that had the tone of a tube amp, or at least so close that it's very hard to tell the difference. So what are the high end solid state amps, or the ones that you honestly can't hear a difference from between it and a nice tube amp? Thanks!

The new Randall T2 and V2 amps are the best of both worlds from what I hear. Tube preamps, solid state power amps (with MOSFET tube emulation). The T2 is an all tube preamp, and is simplet than the V2, which has 3 channels (SS clean, SS crunch, tube distortion), and the MOSFET power amp, as well as a 6-band graphic EQ. Also check out the Randall Warheads.
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

The best of both worlds would be the opposite. Tube poweramp and SS preamp, the tube poweramp is responsible for what most people attribute to the pleasing sound of tubes.

But yes, Randall makes sweet amps, especially for high gain..

I disagree, preamp valves are where all the smooth sustain and punch comes from. Give me 7 preamp tubes and 1 power amp.

which do you all think is a better ss amp for tool-ish rock/alternative, metallica-ish hard rock, and clapton-ish cleans: vox valvetronix ad100 or Randall RG100G3?

I'm not pretty sure about the Clapton-ish cleans but the Randall G3 would be your best bet, it could do Metallica-ish Gain easy and could go to Pantera-ish Gain.
