if you know the song cliffs of dover by eric johnson, around 15 or 16 seconds, where he goes back and forth from the 15 19 and 17th frets, he picks each note with the pick, and alternately picks the high e string with his middle finger. helps to do certain things a little faster, and can also be used to simultaneuosly pick notes in some cases.

Not it's not. It's using youth a pick and your fingers to pick the strings.
