Would anyone want to start one?

I have no idea how they work, how to DJ, anything like that, but I saw the one in the Pit, and it seems to work well, and the Metal Forum seems like an awesome place to have one.

Also, I'm PRETTY sure my music on my comp isn't all that great for a radio show... I have some great metal, but not a great variety like Dyer's might have, or bo especially.

But, yea, I thought it would be a cool idea even thought I could HARDLY contribute....

Sound like a good idea?

Would this include the more well-known stuff (Opeth, In Flames, Testament, ect.), or do copyright laws limit us to the underground?

Not denying that either of these two have extensive collections (I wouldn't know), but why those two exactly?

I guess it could work.

No offense to anyone, I just thought of the first two people I knew that had amazing collections.

I know full well a lot more people have good/better collections, they were just examples.

And it can include anything. I mean, listening to the one in the Pit, it was a whole lot of classic rock, some SRV, Muse, and he even played "In My Time of Need" (Opeth, if you didn't know).

It's just a custom station.

I just can't be the server for it. I could most likely be a DJ when I read up on how, but I can't be the one that starts it. This comp just isn't powerful enough/ have the capabilities.

But yeah I could probably be a DJ or something, not for extended periods of time though.

Oh... Just reading their posts, and when they posted their album collections in that thread.

Dyer's list just went on and on and on. Same for bo.

And yea, DJing would be okay, for like an hour or so a day, maybe.

We just need someone to ACTUALLY start the station....=/

Well, find someone to be the server.

We've got three DJs, and if it starts up, I'm sure more will sign on, but no one to start it.

Anyone know someone that can?

Not all of it's metal though, obviously.

just make sure it's not under the official name of Ultimate Guitar, and as long as it shows it has nothing legally to do with UG.

good luck.

Buahaha, I have a bigger penis than all of you.

This would be a good idea if a substantial amount of music played was rather obscure/unknown. That way people can get into more Metal and expand their tastes. I don't listen to the Pit version precisely because they constantly play stuff that everyone knows.

Edit: ^aww *shame*

What do you need to host it? I can do it if you'd like. Heres my computer specs:

2x 120 GB HDD
AMD FX -55
2 GB RAM
512 MB nVidia 7200GT or something
And I have an extra hard drive, a firewire hard drive with like 240 or so gigs.
#23
I can without a doubt DJ. I don't have the biggest collection, but i have a good variety and I add to it every week. I might get a macbook pro by September which I might be able to host on, but thats a big maybe.

Alonso- All I know is it's a Winamp plugin, so you need Winamp to be a server (not a big download, I've downloaded it before), and you MIGHT need it to DJ.

I haven't read up on it A LOT, becuase I figured some might have heard of it.

I'll go to the website and read up some, and post a link and whatnot in a minute.

EDIT:

http://www.shoutcast.com/download/serve.phtml

That's the download page for a server. Just see over it, and see if you can.

And, if and when we figure out we cna have a server, then I will read up on DJs. Whether they NEED Winamp and whatnot.

If we do, I'm sure it's not hard to transfer your files, but if you have a load of iTunes music files and whatnot, they might not work.

I'm installing Winamp again right now, so I'll let you know.

EDIT2: Yes, as I read through the audio it supports, .aac, .flac, all of it is supported.

So, can you be the server?

I just think it would be awesome if you could.

Also, if you can, we can go ahead and assign DJ positions and days and whatnot.

Hell, UG Radio (the Pit version) already has special event and times for entire albums, and such, we could even have an hour or two dedicated to one band on weekends or something, and play the DJ's dream setlist or something.

But, yea, plans.

What I'm probably gonna end up doing is purchasing a hard drive of my own, then transferring all my music from my dad's computer to that, and that'll give me the capability to download as much as I need, so once that happens my music collection will multiply fast.

I still maintain that I can DJ.

That's fine. We just need to ACTUALLY get a server first, THEN we'll assign DJ spots, time frames, and all that.

I'm glad to see people are interested, though. This can be a good way to discover new tunes and such if we do it right.

Awesome, just fill us in when it's up. Give us the port and all that, and we can go ahead and start setting it up.

And give it a witty name, and like faqu said, don't affiliate with UG, since we can get in trouble for that.

And when fallenangel was commenting on my expansive musical collection, that was just my CDs, haha. about 20-30% of my entire music collection I actually own.

Mind, mines jack-all compared to mah 'supplier'. He has about 60,000 tracks worth of music, 90% of it being metal.
