A combo would do gigs fine

But yeah, peavey 6505/5150 has more gain than you will ever need

A. you dont need a halfstack. Combos can be just as effective.

B. Your still not going to find a goo high gain halfstack for 1300. Maybe a head for 1300 but not a good halfstack, unless u go used

C. For Combos check out the Peavey XXX, 6505

used mesa Rectifiers, used Mark III and IV series

Used Peavey 5150/6505 would be perfect

They have silly ammonts of gain

Used Peavey JSX, perhaps? I'm not sure of the price of Peaveys over there.

I'd agree with everyone else, a 212 with high enough wattage (100+) would actually be TOO loud.

but most peavey combos have crap speakers in them and aren't going to get the same bass response as even say a 2x12 w/ a closed back and vintage 30's.

yea but getting a good high gain head with a 2x12 is out of budget, by like 200-300

I've never heard anyone complain about 6505 combos' speakers, or JSX combos'.

Funny thing about a close backed 2x12 combo has that effect on the amount of air that's pushed in the low end

$1300 can buy you a lot of amp. If you buy used, you'll almost have your pick of heads, cabs or combos.

If you're doing a lot of gigging, I'd probably go with a head + 2x12 cab for portability. Going with a 4x12 cab pretty much eliminates the weight per piece advantage that a 2x12 + head has over a 2x12 combo :P

My advice would be to go out to local shops and try everything you can get your hands on.

Ummm what would you rather have? Good tone or look cool :P
Fleet of MiJ Ibanez
Couple of Balls
Peavey & EVH Wolfgangs
Eclipse
Fender HM Strat
Kemper KPA
5150 III 50w & cabs

If your gigging alot you might as well go with a nice 4x12. For mostly home practice Id say a 5150 combo or head and 212. But for gigging I preffer a f12 just for the amount of air it pushes.
