I was recently looking at a AMS catalog and saw this new EVH 5150 III amp that sells for $1999 for the head & $1099 for the cab. Then a few pages away they sell the Peavey 6505+ halfstack for $1799. Does anybody think the 5150 III is that much better or is it just cuz it has EVH's name on it?
#2
its just the name. Fender's metal/high gain amps never turn out so hott. the 6505 is much better( IMO, going off from teh sound clips of teh 5150III at NAMM, sounded wya to buzzzy and fizzy, and tin)

II agree, probably just a name thing, and yes, for a Fender high gain, that seems like too much anyway. I actually own a 6505+ and I couldn't be happier with it to be honest.
#4
Go with the original thing! Well sorta original

Play it safe imo! But supposable the cleans are better on the 5150 III!
#5
What? Didn't know my 6505 had cleans... oh right, I'm a metal head, I haven't figured out what those are yet Actually with chorus or slight delay + neck pickup, the clean channel on my 6505 is just fine.

Good cleans
Bonecrushing overdrive
Decent price

You only get to pick 2 out of that list.
Fleet of MiJ Ibanez
Couple of Balls
Peavey & EVH Wolfgangs
Eclipse
Fender HM Strat
Kemper KPA
5150 III 50w & cabs

well, its in stores. and ive actually heard from a few people who tried it out and thought it was awesome.

You could probably score a much better amp for the $2k. I mean, there are a few boutique high gainers that are in that range, hell, you could get a diezel.
Peavey 5150
Mesa Mark IV
Mesa Single Rectifier (Series 1)
Fender Custom Shop Tonemaster
Roland Microcube

-Whitebox OS 1x12
-Port City OS 1x12

So far, it seems like no one has played the 5150 III. Correct? Thus, most statements are going to be void. Also note: the NAMM recording either shows that the amp is kinda weak, or that it was recorded horribly. I'm voting the later.

Either way, I agree that you can score a waaay better amp for 2k.

Meh, CLX is better in my opinion. You get better saturation out of them.

just think of the "pissed-off" that would come out of a pit bull and a powerball run in stereo.

I'd prefer to run a Pittbull and a Mesa/Boogie Mark together, that way you can have a blend of the tonal spectrum running together. Either way, I've heard amazing tones when people combine the Pittbull with a more saturated amp. Its really really orgasmic.

Yah, that might be a bit too much saturation.

Ever think about running a Powerball eq'd for really really bright tone, and then adding a Bogner Uberschall for bottom end. That would be pretty rad.

Oh hey, he did.

I was thinking more along the lines of Mark Tremonti meets a better lead tone.

eh, tremonti's tone isn't exactly what i'd call "pissed off eat your mothers face so your great grand children come out with ****ed up noses and one eye" tone.

True. I kinda dig his rythmn tone for hard-rock though. Too bad his bands tend to suck.

+

Pittbull + Framus maybe? Or diezel.

Randall V2 + Mesa Recto/Mark would be a pretty nice combo too...

The trick is to blend two tonally different amps, that cover a similar spectrum. You know? Like running a Boogie through a Marshall power section. It worked for Master Of Puppets at least...
