my sister started some retarded singing thing and she cant affored a pa so she wants to run a microphone through my guitar amp. will this mess with my amp or blow it up or something?

#2
dude. DON'T DO THAT! you'll end up ****ing your amp, because the mains voltage will be electrically transmitted into the microphone (via currented ultrasound due to extreme feedback), thus being exerted onto your sister.

JAWKEDIT: OK, sorry for scaring you, I didn't know what I was going on about, it's just that morning feeling you know . Nothing will be damaged.

you can, but make sure you run it through a digitech whammy first, or some other effects, so she thinks she sings all bad
And what is more, there's been a bloody purple nose and some bloody purple clothes that were messing up the lobby floor. It's just apartment house rules so all you 'partment fools remember : one man's ceiling is another man's floor.

blues harmonica players like to play harmonica through a small guitar amp for some good distorion. This whole thing about amps blowing up, its bollcoks.

And back in the 60 / 70's when they ACTUALLY talked about them blowing up, more then likely it was because they didnt have reliable modern transistors / power supplys in them.

ok so i tried running a few mic's through it:

the free one you get with ur comp (the cheap 5 doller ones)
a PS2 singstar one

the free one didnt work at all (i dont know if it works on anything)
the PS2 one worked the best even though it kept cutting out

how would a cheap ashton mic sound like? ( i have a cheap ashton amp :p )

If you use distortion when singing through an amp, will you get a distorted voice?

I think you run more risk of blowing/tearing the speaker when playing bass on a guitar amp than blowing out the electronics...

It's an AMPLIFIER
there is no such thing as a strict guitar amp or bass amp or anyting as in a guitar amp only works with guitar. It's just an amp matched with a speaker which both are suited best for guitar. But it still is an amplifier. Transistors. They don't give a flying **** what you plug into them... Only sometimes they can't handle what they get. I've played my guitar through so many amps, including a TV... it works

it will not damage your amp unless you turn it up too much (you can get a ****load of feedback)
#23
The feedback is shocking, and the tone is appalling but it works.

Once I put a bass and a mic through a dual input Bass Amp and the poor machine didn't know what to do!
#24
It should cause no problems, same goes for a bass, there's only one octave difference in range, it would cause no problems, but wouldn't sound that great clean.
#25
^wrong, guitar speakers are designed for guitar, they cannot handle the extra vibrations of the bass

however for vocals a bass amp sounds better but a guitar amp is fine - the vocal is in that middle range

They can handle it, providing it's not turned up a lot.

^and how may guitarists ever have their volume on less then 9?

but yes you're right

keep it clean and low boys, clean and low

9? Has UG taught you nothing? Guitarists don't go below below 11

Usually not. But...

If you have the amp cranked, and it you get feedback, It could. You usually can't crank it before you get feedback, so even though it sounds like ****, it won't hurt anything (except your ears).

With your sister's singing, your ears will already be hurting.

(Tell your sister I'm just kidding.)
