I've been wondering this for a long time.

How do they put the little m's on each M&M?

I believe a machine either stamps or uses an ink jet type setup to mark them

That's nothing but sorcery. Fairies seemed much more logical.

i actually have a friend whose parents run a business who do that kind of stuff. i dont know how its done but i would think they just stamp it on.

but then wouldn't it be simpler to leave it off? they could manufacture more candy if they just left it off....

They wouldn't want you to forget what candy you're eating halfway through the bag I guess...

very very carefully with a stamp. yes it's done by machine, which is why you sometimes see ones with the m a little off center.

They're made on the same lines as the peanuts and stuff.

Like one day it may be peanut, then the next regular. There are traces of peanuts because they dont clean off their machinery everyday, and they use the same machine for different m&m's.
