i was wondering if you can get a single coil that fits into a humbucker caverty, or a place to get a conversion ring for the job.

if you have a pickguard you could just buy a new pickguard cut for a single coil. If you don't have a pickguard, you could do it, but not without some bodywork. I'm not sure about a conversion ring, though. You could also just do a coil split to a humbucker, then you have the option of single/humbucker...

I've seen conversion thingers around. They might be around eBay. There was a thread here where somebody used one, I'll look it up.

If you dig the tone, you could get some humbucker sized p-90s (big single-coil). Otherwise, what everyone else has said already.
