I've tried airing a case out from over a year but it still smells like something died in it. How can I get rid of the smell? I tried Febreeze but that only made it worse.

Haha I have the same problem with one of mine - inside smells like embalming fluid. It's started to go away a tiny bit with time...

STOP TRANSPORTING DEAD BODIES IN YOUR GUITAR CASE!

hmm.. getting smells out.. i saw this one on mythbusters which works for getting out skunk spray (so i imagine it shoudl work on your .. carcass smell..)

a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide
a box of baking soda
1 teaspoon of dish detergent (i suppose this is for a flowery smell)

the peroxide and baking soda work as a neutralizer for acids which is usually the source of any offending smell. just be careful it doesn't decolorize your guitar case lining.. if you're even worried about that.
Grammar and spelling omitted as an exercise for the reader.

If they say it on Mythbusters it must be true, therefore i back the suggestion of Kivarenn82.
