Anyway, my question is, let's say someone is playing a chord progression like the one the guy in the video is playing. If you wanted to do a lead solo improv over the chord progression, do you basically just find the key the progression is in (E Major) and play the blues scales over the blues chord progression?? So if it ia bluesy sounding riff you'd just play the blues scale in the same key over the progression, just mixing up the notes so it doesn't sound so generic as a straightforward blues scale?

Pretty much, yeah...obviously that's not the be-all and end-all of soloing but it's the best place to start.
