Whats the quality like on Yamaha guitars and what are the stock pickups like?

I saw this one earlier, and I was wandering whether it would be worth buying.

I have a separate fund for an amp, and I'm going to get an orange tiny terror, so you don't need to know what amp I have now

Back to the Yamaha, would a pickup change be the best option? or are the stock pickups ok as they are?

The stock pickups are probably okay, but I'm pretty sure they will leave something to be desired, although it mostly depends on what kind of music you play.

Mostly Metal and classic rock is what I play

But I saw and heard some Swinesheads that sounded nice, the bridge one was nice and crunchy and the neck pickup sounded like some of Slash's solos

Then you will definitely want to change the pickups.

So is the guitar worth buying? or will it just be a waste of money?

Looks like it would be a good guitar if you change the pickups.

Yamahas make really good beginner level guitars.
That guitar there,is pretty good (besides the fact that I hate basswood)
It might be worth it, to switch the pickups to some intermediate level pickups, and it can sure hell last you quite some time.

sounds decent then

is basswood in between mahogany and alder in terms of tone?

Yes, basswood is somewhat in between.
if you want ot upgrade pickups, then basswood is slightly limited by choices, than if you had maho

I just don't like them..stale.

swinesheads are nice.

yamaha generally are nice (as long as you don't really cheap out), but i haven't tried that one.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
