I would like to get a good guitar that is good for someone whos been playing 6 months. I am about to start taking lessons and i would like to know good guitar to learn with. my price range will probley be 300 to 700. i dont want one thats for like hard garbage playing or anything like that, i play stuff like jimmy hendrix songs and wolfmother and quite a bit of Led Zeppelin. I play rock, funk and jazz so id like to know a guitar around that price range. I dont play in a band or anything yet i just play in my basement just for something to do. Also if the guitar you say sounds like really really good with an amp you know just say what kinda of amp it is and the name and how much it would cost but im not really looking for an amp ATM.

Dollars or Pounds?

Why would you wanna get an electric with no amp??

There are plaenty of starter packs that can give you both...
I've got something in my front pocket for you.
Why don't you reach down in my pocket and see what it is?
Then grab onto it, it's just for you.
Give a little squeeze and say: "How do you do?"

The reason I suggested a starter pack is because hes only been playing for 6 months. If he stops playing then its money down the pan.

You may be able to get a MIM HSS strat and a Cube 30 for 700..

Id get the LTD EC400VF. Les Paul simplicity with solid even tones from blues to metal, great thin necks with big fretwire, quality SD pups, good Korean labor. Just as thick and as heavy as a real LP also.
