Listen, i was approached by a member of our band and told to start jumping around more while we're playing. I have two objections to this:

1) Its harder to play whilst jumping around
2) You look immature, dorky, primitive and above all, unprofessional.

Its not like i was a statue while i was playing... i move around as i play, but not the point where i look like tom from blink 182.

In your opinion, does jumping around whilst playing make u look any cooler, and if so, why?

I dont think it does.

One of the guitarists in my band does. He does it a lot, and it is just distracting.

Jumping= lame and extremely annoying. Just headbang, move around, I don't know, whatever you feel like doing. Just don't jump, please.

depends, if you playing pop-punk, punk and other stuff similar to that, maybe jumping around can make the set look...better. I barely jump around unless i really have to.... I just move around and pull faces at the drummer, who throws his sticks at me...

Jumping = Noobish

Surely you couldve written somthing more substantial, especially considering you were the other band member who was told to do the same :P

Once, again, i dont like standing completely still, but then again i also dont like jumping about, like spineless said, its just a bit noobish
#17
Just jumping up and down, makes you look like a moron, but say your playing a really easy song, for some reason, then like , dont neccesarily jump, but kind of moving the guitar around can detract from that fact that your playing really boring powerchords, like the whole lift and slam move if its a big chord or something like that
but of course you dont want to jump to dimmu bogir or something

If it's some easy punk song involving 3 powerchords it can be okay. If you're playing metal, you will look stupid and loose respect, lol.

Personally, lately I've decided that jumping takes up my concentration, can cause me to fall the hell over, or knock amps and **** over. So I've adopted a stationary groove, similar to Rob Trujillo's crabwalk mentioned by Muggus except I don't walk around much, just sort of crouch and sway with the occasional headbang or whatnot. Good stuff.

I think you just just go with the music... I never think about what I'm doing onstage, it's never "I'm gonna start jumping in this next section". Just get into the zone and play the music and do what you do, that way it looks more natural as opposed to some goit throwing himself around the stage deliberately, where it just looks fake and bad.

I jumpand move around all the time. Can't help it. NO POGOING, though.

Sicssor kicks, Morello style jumps and general movement.

It doesn't make playing the song that much harder but it definitely takes more effort.

I dont like it when really, really good people play an easy song and just stand still looking bored. I mean, if it was a tough song, then yeah, concentrate on what your playing. But DONT LOOK BORED!!
#33
I hate bands that jump around while playing guitar.... All the Blink-182, No-Fx type bands....

Moving around is what you've gotta do... but no jumping!!

Although i think jumping a little is allowed for the vocalist.... sorta...

It's a short step from that to dance routines. Just say no, kids.

IF you can pull it off then go for it.
This is going to sound real stupid but don't force it out, if theres energy in the song you'll start jumping aotamaticlly (can't spell). Listrn to Peggy Sue-Blink 182, Carry Me Home- The Living End, Prisoner of Socicity-The Living End. They sound give you a 'feel' that tells your body to jump.

Remember-Playing live is just as much about the energy you put into the performance just as much, if not more about the music you play. I've seen bands that sound shit (when I say sounds shit do mean sounds shit) But were good live because of the energy they put into there performance.

I would say no if you're doing it all the time - the occasional jump, perhaps at the beginning or end of a song can look good though. Otherwise just move around the stage a bit - that said, don't underestimate the power of staying in one (awesome) pose for a while.

I jump around crazily, not pop-punk style but more going absolutely psycho and jumping off of **** like amps, chairs, stairs whatever. Whatever you do in the spirit of the music is cool. Hell, i've been playing my bassists bass while playing my guitar lately when we play Unholy Confessions by A7X (i know they do very much suck, but the song is fun to play plus we make it very different) in the spirit of the moment. Nothing should be staged *cough Fallout Boy cough*
