Sure you can. I don't have much nationalism though, and to be honest the entire concept makes little or no sense to me. I consider myself to be from three different countries but I'm not emotionally attached to any of them. It just gives me a connection to people from those countries when I'm in ANOTHER country. Cuz we're the same type of fish out of water.

Of course you can be a Nationalist or a Socialist without being a Nazi.

To answer the question, yes.

Personnally I think that nationalism is a disgrace to human decency. Who the **** cares if you're from the USA, you're not right all of the time(note: I am from the US). Sometimes people need to realize that being loyal to a flag or a symbol(such as the title of President of the United States) can be dangerous, WWII being a great example. Nationalism can and is manipulated all of the time.

The swastika was originally a good luck symbol.

Then the Nazis turned it a few degrees which made it pure evil.

I HATE NATIONALISTS WITH A PASSION.

I live in Surrey England, and they are all in a minority, noone celebrates St Georges day, i dont even know what date the day is on.I feel sorry people who fell the need to be loyal to something or someone, which is only seperated by invisible borders, and they always tend to be ethocentric, and sorry to sterotype but closet racists.

^That doesn't make them Naiz's though does it.

One group did.

Anyone who wants Quebec to be a separate nation is a nationalist. Liberte de Quebec is just an extremist group.

This is kind of like asking if you can be Islamic and not be a terrorist.

Nationalism gives us a sense of belonging to a group of people, either different or the same. It gives most people a reason to get up and work or back their government or military. If we didn't have it we'd be like "who the fuck cares about the country! i'm a fucking german born!" etc etc...

St Georges Day is 23rd of April.

P.S. if thats the case with the English, what about the Scots? their national anthem is extremely jingoistic and military. Not to mention some of its more xenophobic inhabitants

fair enough, I dont really know enough about the subject. The irony is the regiment in my avatar took part in the attack on Quebec led by Wolfe

It's most definitely possible.

And out of curious why is it such a damn crime to be proud of where you come from? When did patriotism become a sin?

wrong. Ever heard of Nevilles Cross. the last ever battle between England and Scotland in the war of the rough wooing....England virtually wiped out the Scots Army. Other than Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn the Scots lost nearly all of the major battles

It's not. It's only when you think you're better than anyone because you're from such and such does it becomes stupid.

We did beat you in a few battles though. I guess it's kind of like football teams, Chelsea could beat East Stirling 600 times but if East Stirling won just once then that would go done in the clubs history and Chelsea fans would never hear the end of it.

I hear alot of people talk about how they hate their country, which is just dumb and idiotic, dont hate your country, hate the regime that runs it, be proud of where your from and your heritage and try to make your country better...dont just sit back and say "its dumb, it sucks, i hate it"

I just don't understand why where you chanced to be born, or where your parents chanced to be born, is anything to be proud of. It's kind of luck of the draw, isn't it? To be proud of your history is something else I guess...it just bothers me that, a lot of times, people don't even know what they're being proud of. It's like mass hysteria.

Yesterday was Independence Day in the states and I just stayed at home all day. Everytime I leave my house on the Fourth of July, there's always some asshole wearing a flag hat and asking me if I'm proud to be an American.

Whenever I see an English flag on a car, i just think Why?
Why is that flag there, by all means put it up, tatoo it on your forehead for ****sake, i just don't see the point.
And when nationalists say we are losing our national identity and our sense of English culture due to multiculturilism, that just makes me think, if it was so special, then it wouldn't be dying out. Most of English is **** anyway. Lets be honest.

Yeah I agree it makes no sense... I said the same thing to some "extreme patriots" at my old work and they just blurted out regurgitated out-of-date ideals and other nonsense.

you should be proud to be an American, you've been granted with freedoms and rights that most people in the world only dream of. Be proud of the fact that because you're an American you can live comfortably, without having to worry about bloody coups, or the nation next door invading, or your water supply running out. You're right, it is luck of the draw where we end up, but the least we can do is take pride in the things in our history that have given us the freedoms we currently have.
