So I plan on buying a guitar that is relatively nice, but the pickups suck, terribly. in the neck i want a nice warm smooth sounding pickup. the bridge i want a nice meaty distortion that doesnt get muddy and has a bit of a trebly sound for those fun 80s shred style songs, but enough low to support some good kansas - wayward son type stuff.

yeah im a pickups/electronics noob. humbuckers, i will be running through a LP copy into a randall 150 watt tube head. the tube head itself has ALOT of bass, so as for both pickups id like a less bassy sound, but still have the bass there so as for recording i can tweak it to the way i want.

ummmm hmm... look into the Dimarzio ToneZone pickups.

If you want an 80's vibe with a powerful, smooth neck tone then I reckon a Dimarzio Super Distortion/Breed set. If you want the bridge a bit more versatile and with a little less 80's fizz then I'd stick a Norton there, maybe another Breed. Tone Zone is incredibly bass-heavy, I don't think it'd help with the bassy amp issue.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
