I was playing Toxicity and there's this fast palm muted part with a bunch of chords

Pm(----------------------------------------------)
D|---------------------------------------------------------
A|---------------------------------------------------------
F|---------------------------------------------------------
C|-3-2-0-2-0-0-3-2-0-2-0-0-3-2-0-2-0-0-3-2-0-2-0-0---------
G|-3-2-0-2-0-0-3-2-0-2-0-0-3-2-0-2-0-0-3-2-0-2-0-0---------
C|-3-2-0-2-0-0-3-2-0-2-0-0-3-2-0-2-0-0-3-2-0-2-0-0---------

So anyway... I was playing it and that part wasn't exactly up to tempo so my friend tells me to "alternate pick" the chords. I tried it and it sounded like a complete mess. Anyone got any tips?

yup, practice alternate picking :P Its not very difficult. also, pick only the two top strings, will sound better.

well, being in drop D makes it a little easier, you can focus more on the picking...

just slow it down and play with a metronome...

how fast is the song??

then find out how fast you can play it cleanly, and practice at 80% at that and slowly move up...

Thanks for the help guys

I think I found the problem, I use the fleshy right part of my palm to PM so that forces me to angel my pick up. So when I strum down the pick goes with the flow but when I strum up pick gets caught on the strings and slows me down. I can't really get the pick in the position I want without doing something really wierd, is there some picking tech I'm missing? Gah I'm so lost

not sure wat ur asking, so i guess it's good if you figured it out lol...

i think if you angle the pick towards like 2 o'clock you'll glide over it better...and you can loosen your grip so it angles either towards the ceiling or the ground also...
