Pick a three-note-per-string scale form. Run it up and down. Helps synchronize your left and right hands and gets a scale under your fingers.

I would say start off with chromatics, string skipping, and tempo shifts it helps alot. Oh also start with upstroking and downstroking.

I play the scales I know with alternate picking (forward and backwards). I also do something like this:

e|------------------------------------------1-2-3-4-|
B|----------------------------------1-2-3-4---------|
G|--------------------------1-2-3-4-----------------|
D|------------------1-2-3-4-------------------------|
A|----------1-2-3-4---------------------------------|
E|-1-2-3-4------------------------------------------|

Then you can take them all and mess around with them (skip between strings or change notes to work with your left and right hand synching).
Rock On
