I'm playing at my first real 'major' location tomorrow. We've played a few parties and stuff, and I know my material down pat, but I can't help but feel really nervous. Any tips?

1. Wear sunglasses.
2. Pretend you're someone else.
3. Put Icy Hot on your dick.

Youre probably just excited and worrying too much. If you know your stuff you should be okay. Just go out and have fun, and its not that huge of a gig.
#5
take it to bandleading bro, what do you mean major like your playing venue? It's just like playing a normal show man take a few deep breaths do some yoga or something hundle around the bands before you go on and yeah you'll do fine.

Pay attention to your band and grooving along to the songs. Have fun! the audience can tell if you're having fun. Remember to put on a show, that's what you're there to do.

Don't look out to the crowd much. Look past them ( above and past to the back ) look at the fretboard, the other members, etc. until after the first song or two, then you can slowly start reacting to the crowd. Also, move if you have space. Walk a bit ( a few steps ) headbang if that fits the style of music, or just bob your head/tap your foot.

Drink plenty of water, do not lock your knees, and breathe deeply as often as possible.

Take care buddy

Have a good gig

Don't stand there like you have a stick up your ass. Nobody wants to go to a show just to hear the music, you can do that at home with a CD or MP3 player or whatever you may have. It's about how you play AND present it.

Remember, you are a guitar god and you will blow minds. They wouldn't go if they didn't want to hear you play.

Good luck!
#22
Embrace your nerves. Some people just get freaked out before a gig and they never get over it. At first I get slightly antsy but after a song or two I'm way into it. Just remember: it's music, it's supposed to be fun. You probably won't nail all your songs, so don't focus on playing it perfectly. Focus on the vibes! Get the crowd going.

I just got back from an incubus concert (20 minutes ago) and they were ultra relaxed. To the average music listener, it's difficult to tell if someone's nervous unless they're physically acting nervous, so even if you're skitched way out, just act the part and the rest will come.

Good luck!

Exactly what I thought.

Yeah, but make sure you concentrate most on your playing. If you're thinking about how to look cool when you're not used to gigs, you're probably going to **** up.

you should be considered lucky that you get nervous when a gig comes up. whenever i have to play a gig.. i ALWAYS get so unbelievably tired that i can barely stand by the time i drag my ass on stage.

i'm not narcoleptic!

it usually wears off after the first 2 songs, but its a real pain when the rest of the band doesn't think you're into the material.

at least if i was nervous.. i'd be focused on doing a good job.

You're from victoria
What band are you in?
TS: Just try not think about it and when you get up there, just move around and look at your fretboard a lot if you don't want to look at the crowd. Nervousness should wear off after a song or two.

i'm not in a band anymore. but back in the day.. thats what would happen to me. it was kinda sucky.

When i first moved here i had joined up with Horde of Anachron. but i wasn't able to give them the amount of dedication they needed to fully perform my best with them, so we parted ways. it was good times tho

booze and music dont mix. If you start drinking now as a kid to calm down you will be a mess when you are older. I have seen it more tham once. I plade with guys who had delerium tremens .Booze will always be present at gigs . Do not become addicted . Not to mention you cant play drunk.

I play just fine drunk. Though it might be because I'm drunk and I think it's fine.

You should do some stretches to loosen yourself up a bit and get pumped and get some adrenaline going. you also need the 'Fuck it, I can do anything' feeling running through your body coz that helps a lot too.

get drunk.

Thats the **** im talking about!

Have a pint before you go on, something to calm the nerves. Play a song you wont **** up on first so you get the feel.

Once you get into it and the magic happens you'll be smokin hot.

Also sunglasses are a bad idea, make you look like a asshole and if the room turns on you, the asshole/drummer is always the first one to get a pint thrown at him.
