I couldn't get into the Hobbit. Fellowship was my favorite. I've got to read the Silmarillion after I'm done with summer reading.
Listen to mah discs.

And coming soon, THE CLEVER DEVILS VS. THE BLONDES.

The Children of Hurin is better than the Hobbit IMO.

Better characters, cooler plot, has Morgoth, takes place outside of Middle Earth.....etc. etc.

And it's written diferently also.

I remember being told that was his "practice" book. It was written before the Lord of the Rings, so he was "testing the waters," so to speak.

Sort of.

More liked started and mostly written by Tolkien, completed by his son.

I am currently reading it and it owns.
I derived my official black metal 'lord name" from it.

That being Lord Narothrond

And what's up with The Hobbit people?

That book was boring IMO

I thought Tolkien's son wrote Silmarillion by the aid of his father's notes - I don't think Tolkien ever really started writing it.
I'm a communist. Really.

So technically its not one of his completed works as the title suggests but I'll let it slide.

Also you spelled Nargathrond differently in your user title than in your post, which is it?

Finally, I think the Hobbit is written in a more interesting style than the Lord of the Rings series, when I read them I thought they were drudgery

It's Nargathrond, I probably made a typo.

Have never heard of The Children of Hurin. Any good?
The Silmarillion was just too wordy with a semi plot hidden here and there.
The Hobbit and Lotr are all good

I might try the Silmarillion, as I am fascinated by all the history, etc. However, it looks pretty daunting.

As I have allready said in this thread many times, The Children of Hurin owns, and is my favorite Tolkien book.

And btw, to the person who said it isn't technicaly a complete Tolkien work...yeah it is, because the only people who worked on it are named Tolkien so technically it is a completed work by Tokiens.
