i'm thinking of sanding off the finish on my godin sd. it's got a maple body, so it shouldn't look too bad. i don't really plan on repainting it, or refinishing it for that matter. any tips?

i did something like this, but i didnt refinish because i was lazy, not because i planned not to

just make sure you dont sand past the sealer unless you want it to look really rustic

erm, what's the sealer? i always figured it was wood, paint, and finish. and what did you use to sand with?

its usually wood, sealer/grain filler, paint, poly or nitro finish
hit it with 40 grit to start and gradually move to 400 or so when you get through the paint
sand in one direction and all that good stuff

and is it really necessary to completely strip the electronics? i'm totally out of the loop on how to reinstall pickup's and all that, so i figure i could just sand around the electronics as closely as possible and then the pickguard would cover it.
