Ok, so i need a little clearing up on this certain matter. When I read tabs that have palm muting it usually always says something like

P.M.
<_______>
------------------------|---------------|
--0-0-0-0------------|---4-5-5-6---|

telling me to palm mute that open note or whatver. So i mute it with my picking hand at the bottom and strum the note right? Yeah. So then I see

------------------------------|
------------------------------|
------------------------------|
-3-3-3----x-x-x---2-2-2--|
-1-1-1----x-x-x---4-4-4--|
-1-1-1----x-x-x---4-4-4--|

so whenever i see x's like those i just gently lay the fingers of my fretting hand over those strings and strum or whatver. My question to you is are these two completely different things? Or could i just palm mute those mutes notes that are tabbed as x's and still be correct?

x's mean that you should not hear the note....but when palm muting..it should be heard..

But I'm right as to how you play each of them. Right?

Cool. So, just out of preference, how would you guys play this? Like say i would bend the d with my third finger as i lay my index finger on the d string to mute it. (just curious)
