My band wants to start recording, but the problem is none of us have any idea how to get some decent recordings going. This is where UG comes to play, I'd just like to know what sort of gear would be needed, so if you guys would be kind enough to steer me off in the right direction.

By the way, we don't want go to expensive (Also, since I'm from Australia www.guitar.com.au is a much better friend to Musiciansfriend.com.

i was in this dilemma myself, I ended up getting a line 6 toneport and an SM57. The SM57 costs around $140 - 150 and the toneport is about $350. (I got all this from america so it was cheaper for me )

Oh yeah, i use garageband (Mac only) for recording.
