^I agree. Though the debut already sounded very different, more robotic, in a way.

I love the funk sounding part halfway through 100 degrees.

Oh yes, I love that one too. Scott's playing is top-notch throughout, imo. Every time Josh lets him room to breathe, he really shines (Asteroid, anyone?). Even when there's massive riffing going on, you can always hear Scott doing his own cool thing.

Scott is a bloody master.

Both Tool and Metallica are morons for passing on him when he auditioned.
Dyer's Eve is awesome, and has an abnormally large penis, which doesn't act as any hinderance to his everyday life despite its freakishly large size.

Although I completely agree, he did sound horrible when he played FWTBT in Some Kind of Monster.

I suspect they consciously chose the worst part and showed it.

I find this hard to believe, is there a video of that part?

To be honest, Rob probably fits them better, and he's a fantastic bassist as well, but Scott is close to unbeatable.

Quite contrary, I say.

Scott was probably the least appropriate candidate from all of those for Metallica. His style isn't as straightforward and simplified.
However, I think he would've done an infinitely better job in Tool than Justin would. He's a great bass player as well, but Scott would have been perfect for it.

Yes, he doesn't really fit Metallica, but Tool with Scott would have been interesting. If I recall correctly, he co-wrote Space Cadet, N.O. and wrote Fatso Forgotso on his own, all of which are great songs even for Kyuss standards.

Yay! I've already started wondering when you would finally give them a listen

Blues for the Red Sun and Welcome to Sky Valley are two of my perennial favorites, regardless of the genre.

The heavy riffs are just too awesome.

I'll definitely check out Blues for the Red Sun next. Shame they broke up. Any other good stoner groups out there?

Tons of! You could check out Slo Burn, Unida and Hermano first, the bands John Garcia had after Kyuss.

Also, other "first wave" bands like Monster Magnet or Sleep are different, but great nonetheless. Dopes to Infinity and Sleep's Holy Mountain would be the best starting points, respectively.

Pretty much every band from the Palm Desert scene would be good for you, as well as more straight rock oriented groups like Mustache, Buzzer, Nashville Pussy, the afforementioned Monster Magnet, Solarized, and heavier stoner metal bands, like Spiritual Beggars, Alabama Thunderpussy, Spiritual Caravan, Orange Goblin, Cathedral and Down.

All that is just the tip of the iceberg, of course.

In that case, I shall tell you that my knowledge is but a smidgen compared to other users here. Frequent the stoner metal and stoner rock threads in the respective forum, or try the metal rec thread.

That song would be Demon Cleaner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLdOlzIRCdk

Other songs to check out would be Thumb, Gardenia, Green Machine, Hurricane. all of which can be found on youtube.

For CD's, you should get 'Blues for the red sun' and 'welcome to sky valley' as most people seem to agree that those are their best albums.
