well you could either get an overdrive pedal and try to get to metal, or get a distortion pedal. The drive on my amp sucks, but I got a metal muff and can get some decent sounds with it. But I do wanna get an overdrive pedal and see how much I can get outa it, haha

I need the cleans and light gain on the classic for school, but i also use it in my band and we play opeth/COB and the like ( if we ever get that good )

You could probably get it to old-school Marshall-y metal tones with an overdrive. But for more modern stuff I'd look at the EHX Metal Muff.
