For the past 6 months or so my guitar occasionally "switches" tone to something a lot muddier sounding... normally I just jostle it around a bit and it "clicks" back but this time it's stuck in the crappy tone and I can't get it back. I'm using a Mesa Boogie Triple Recto with it. I'm pretty sure it's not cables because I tried using some other ones. So it's either the guitar or the amp.

Any idea what this could be ?

does it happen with either pickup?

Probably the jack input on your guitar. Check to make sure those connections are not loose and make sure the solder connection is good. That sounds like it's your problem.
#4
its probably a loose sloughter connection with the wireing of the pick ups

i think that it could be any of the following problems:

it could be a bad cable. probobly not the case however.

the input jack might be loose, try bending it so theres more of a connection.

or there might be a bad connection somewhere. whether its at the input jack, the pickups, or the knobs/pickup selector, any of these can f*** up your guitar.

I can't imagine anything worse than shagging to Mark Knopfler.

Maybe shagging Mark Knopfler, but that's about it.

or of course, it might be the amp but i SERIOUSLY doubt it.

i like this. tell a guy to bend his jack that'll work. and thenwhen that's not it, maybe you can send him a new one.

If the other suggestions don't work clean the pots and switches with contact cleaner (tuner spray.)

Well I switched cables and I still have the same problem. It seems to be "muddy"-sounding on all the pickup positions... so it's gotta be the guitar. Should I just take it to a shop and ask them to check all the wiring and such?
#12
Save yourself the time, open it up and take a look. If theres something wrong with a connection, you'll probably notice it.
#13
use active pickups? maybe the batteries were running low.
#14
It just sounds like a mucky selector switch to me, possibly a faulty one.
