I bought a used Gibson SG and i noticed that the neck is a bit loose. I have a book that says to take the neck off and clean where it meets the body but that didn't work. I can't tighten the screws any more.

Any ideas?

Aren't they set necks? How did you take it off?

Was it an Epiphone SG?

Gibson? Screwed on neck? I think you've got an Epiphone. Gibson necks are glued in. Those don't come off without major surgery.

I'm just as confused as everyone else here. A Gibson with a bolt on neck?

Take it a tech if you can't sort it though.

uh oh... i think i know what you bought.... and you shouldn't have paid more than $40 for it, depending on the condition.

and thats' what happens to cheap guitars. they break.

I say glue the sucker down with some wood glue - sounds like we're dealing with a surplused instrument worth no more then $50 - $100 USD. The neck pocket is probably to large.

if you dont want to put too much into, get some cardstock or something, and put it around the inside of the neck pocket, then bolt it on...that should tighten the sucker down

It sounds like it may be a Ballwin sold at discount stores. Gibson has some kind of deal with Ballwin for so-called student-grade instruments.

I'd say throw it away. That sounds like you got sold a lemon.

I think you got yourself a Cheap illegal Knock-off, they make em alot in china and they sell em on Ebay and stuff, so id either take it back to where you boughti t and demand some answeres, or take it to a pro to make sure if it is a fake or just a crappy, wierd gibson no ones heard of.
#16
Could be a knock-off. I wouldn't get rid of it just yet, but I wouldn't put any money in it. If you can fix it cheaply it might not be too bad till you get a better axe.
#17
Ya it is a baldwin modal...and don't worry i only paid $30. I figured it was knock off...thx for ur help
