You have basically ripped the top 100 off the Digital Dream Door list and changed a few personal preferences.
Frank Zappa's not dead. He just smells funny.

Me = Huge Pantera Fan.

However

Walk = Terribly ****e Solo that doesn't even deserve to be any where near this list.

Nice to see Stairway to Heaven in a modest but deserved place.

Awful list. It's pretty much all classic rock... why won't people realise that music didn't just die in 1989?
#11
with the upsurge of talented guitar players in the last 10-15yrs, why isn't there any nominations for any songs that were released in the last 10-15 yrs?

These lists are composed by old dudes who don't listen to today's (or even 15 yrs ago's) music, so it can't really be taken as gospel.

Where's Alexi Laiho, Peter Wichers, Michael Amott, Mikael Akerfeldt, Bjorn Gelotten?

Another thing, any of those guitar players listed up their NOT AMerican or English? (I know Angus young is Australian before anyone points it out)

I can see where you're coming from man, however, strangely enough, most of my favourite guitarists, riffs and solos are from that era. So i'm not complaining - yet i think the average age of the voter would be like 40 or something. Bands that don't get enough recognition now will do in about 10 years :P you'll see lol.

i fail to understand why Eruption is not allowed, and Jessica, Satch Boogie and For The Love Of God are.

These kinds of lists are pointless because

a) nobody's going to agree

and

b) it'll be filled with boring, over-rated shredders that shredding fans beat off to

because eruption was just a minute and a half of guitar playing (besides the drums for like 2 seconds).

those other songs are instrumentals. theres a slight difference between the two.

Exactly...a lot of songs dont belong there but a lot of metal/metalcore songs do like Selkies, nearly every Necrophagist song and also a lot of Arch Enemy (think Wages of Sin era)
#20
I think number one should be the solo from "Easy on a Sunday Morning" by Lionel Ritchie.
#21
list=epic phail

on topic no john mclaughlin wtf(hes better than the majority of the guitarists on the list), and need more guitarists outside of the classic rock area.
I also agree with the guy who mentioned how no extreme metal bands got on there

87. "Watermelon in Easter Hay" 68. "New Year's Day"
Guitarist: Frank Zappa > Guitarist: The Edge

89. "Electioneering"
Guitarist: Johnny Greenwood
Artist: Radiohead

I was excited to see that in there.

It is a great 'solo'.

Yer Fru often gets excluded just merely on the fact he doesn't really have many long solos. All his solos are pretty much awesome but they're pretty short generally, so often overlooked. I also don't think he has a standard solo, pretty much any one could make it. Live solos in particular... not that they count.

I can't really say I agree with you. I think the Walk solo is wanktastic, but I can't help but feel that the Cemetary Gates solo is largely insuficent compared to the solos in Floods.

They have, everybody knows music died in 1979.
#32
I see it as being based on how iconic the solo is. Like how well known it is, how well it's stood up to the test of time etc. There's more to a solo than technical prowess and such. There's an aesthetic appeal to the ones on that list. I mean c'mon, pretty much every solo on that list you were playing in your head as you read them.

I don't get the criteria that ultimately excluded Eruption from the list.

Soothsayer should be on there. Did I miss Nadia? Since I Been Lovin You should be higher than 40ish. What about Money?

Eruption as a track isn't an instrumental, and a guitar solo can't be an entire song. So it just doesn't work out.

At least it serves it's purpose, getting the names of songs/solos people haven't heard yet out there. I picked a few off this list (I've seen it before) and ended up enjoying them a lot so I went out and bought their albums. And not everyone is going to agree on the order of the list I suppose, but people did vote on it, as far as I know so a group of people had to agree at some point.
