I know sometime's hes placed with Vai, Satriani, Malmsteem and the likes, but I don't see this guy as a 'shredder'. To me, hes more classic rock. I have Tones and Ah Via Musicom, and they are excellent albums. Anybody else here a fan of Eric Johnson?

Definently man, and you're right he's not a shredder by definition although he does have the ability to play really fast and technically. He a great song writer and plays amazing live. Its a different generation of shredding man.

Eric's great. I own Ah Via Musicom and enjoy it a lot.

In my opinion he's much better than Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and other virtuoso guitarists because he definitely incorporates more than just Shred into his music. He also sings.

One of my favorite aspects of Eric is his tone.

I'm not going to report this thread because his first album was released in 1978, but don't be surprised if this does get closed.

The two solos in 'Desert Rose' is why I love EJ. The ending to that song is great. He really is a wizard with the guitar. I also like him better than Vai, Satriani, etc..
