I'm just curious what your all time favorite metal album is and why. If you don't have just one then name a few. Mine is Judas Priest's Painkiller because its just everything I love in a metal album: loud, powerful, yet melodic and gripping. Go ahead: name yours!

Dimmu Borgir- Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
and What ive heard of Blackwater Park

bedeckt sie die Welt
mit undurchdringlicher Dunkelheit.

Tough one. I enjoy Sonata Arctica's "Ecliptica" though. Their new album "Unia" isn't their best, but it's also enjoyable.

My favorites would have to be Still Life by Opeth, Swallow the Sun's album Hope, and Mirrorthrone's album Carriers of Dust.

EDIT: I also forgot The Absence's Riders of the Plague.

as for my alltime fav, it's Master Of Puppets
but close second is Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side
I’m not the man I used to be, I... I can’t go back to Arkham.

I... I should return to Arkham.

umm,..

first off: Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane.
Doesn't have a single weak song on it, the production is pristinely clear, vocals are brutal but also have clarity; guitars have some of the best tone I've heard on a metal album, and one that's distinctly recognisable. It has excellent lead work, beautiful acoustic guitars, memorable riffs, interesting drumming and some of the most poetic lyrics in metal. I have listened to this album so many times, and it sounds fresh and threatening every time.

Drudkh - Autumn Aurora.

Sorrowful melodies tinged with folky atmospheres. This is a very evocative album, full of ambience. This is pure black metal, and wonderfully executed. The sound is thickly layered, but doesn't sound muddy, rather the melodies sculpt each other into the amazing collective whole. It's well recorded, ensuring the atmosphere remains with the listener long after the last note rings out.

Esoteric - Subconscious Dissolution into the Continuum

My favourite funeral doom album, and features not only slow, relentless and crushing riffs, but plenty of ambience, and incredibly beautiful leads. Greg Chandler's vocals are blood-curdling, and full of raw emotion. Again, featuring excellent production, meaning every note and every instrument is heard.

also:

Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Katatonia - Brave Murder Day
While Heaven Wept - Of Empires Forlorn

there's more but I can't be bothered typing them all

“Who are you then?.."
"- I am part of that power which eternally wills evil and eternally works good.”
