Hello all,

Hoping to get some help from you friendly UGers on what book/s are good. Basicly I can't afford lessons and although theres a lot on the net its impractical for me to practice while on it. There seem to be lots of books on guitar theory, and I'm rather puzzled as to which to get!

My theory knowledge is, well.. weak, and I'm really looking to build it up! Kinda things I'm looking for would be a book that starts for the beginner (doesn't have too much assumed prior knowledge), and that covers scales/modes as well as techniques and styles (especially blues).

I suppose what I'm really asking is if anyone knows of a 'guitar bible'

Does this book contain other stuff than scales and melodic patterns ?

I don't think so, but I've looked at and it's pretty insane. 'Tis the only book I know of that John Coltrane used, says he practiced with it all the time. I think that's a pretty good reccomendation.

this is just my opinion but you dont really need that much theory in your playing like know basic stuff like the staff and notes, but most modern guitar pieces and songs have tabs so learning to read music for guitar could end up to be a waste of time. get powertab man!!

if you really want a book get a chord dictionary that will definitly help you.

^Why settle for less, no matter what genre you're playing?
