the only decent American beers I can think of are Michelob and Sam Adams
#7
Yep, Sam Adams is the ****ing best. Twenty-something varieties too---Black Lager is my personal favorite. But I don't know the percentage of alcohol off the top of my head. I could walk over to the fridge but I'm in the middle of studying.

Sure we do, just not mainstream beers like Miller, Budweiser or Coors.

Alaskan Amber (or any of the other brews by the Alaskan Brewing Co.)
Moose Drool
Silver Gulch
Samuel Adams

Yes, we have Bacardi. Its ****. There are much better rums out there.

There are great American beers to be had. Don't trust college kids or kids who are used to drinking swill from cheap kegs at underage parties to know what good American beer is. Two of my favorites are Abita Turbo Dog and Wagner Valley Sugar House Maple Porter. Both are about 6%. Dogsfish Head makes a variety called 120 Minute IPA that has 12%+ alcohol per volume. Stone Brewery is another good American microbrewery.

Mine says Puerto Rico, and I'm showin' my pride.

Also, Bacardi originated in Cuba in the 1800's, but they left Cuba after showing fierce opposition to Castro in the '60s. They usually market it as a Puerto Rican rum although they are now frequently mentioning that the company was founded in Cuba. Despite that, they do no business with the country anymore. It is now headquartered in Puerto Rico, Bermuda, and Florida.

It's only some ales and bitters that people drink at room temperature here in the UK, and even that is rare nowadays. The lager here is always drunk ice-cold for maximum pleasure.

I hear that beers in the US, even when it's the same brand as sold over here (such as Bud) are weaker in alcohol percentage. Is this true? What is the average ABV for beer in USA?

Good beers will be drank at wine cellar temperature, between the upper 40s and high 50s.

IPAs will never be confused with malt liquor. They're very bitter and are an acquired taste. Very hoppy. But Dogsfish Head also makes several other varieties, including raisin ales.
