Most corny song ever is...

When I See You Smile By: Bad English

Then theres the good 80's ballads like Poison and Skid Row.

I love 80's music!!!
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Or you could do a report on all the good music the 80's had to offer:

The Smiths
The Talking Heads
Talk Talk
Joy Division
The Cure
Bruce Springsteen
Kraftwerk
Elvis Costello
Mission of Burma
Tom Waits
R.E.M.
Brian Eno
U2
Depeche Mode
Prince

etc.

And of course, MICHEAL JACKSON who qualifies as pop and good music.

Alright, since I listen to quite a lot of music from the 80s, let me give you a few bands to check out:

Van Halen
Scorpions
Poison
Bon Jovi
Ratt
Twisted Sister
Def Leppard
White Lion
Thin Lizzy
U2
Journey
Duran Duran
The Bangles

I do consider a few of those bands rock, but others call them pop. But if I had to put them in a genre, I would say they are rock/pop/glam metal. But if you're really looking for 80s pop music, like something that is so pop-ish it would never be considered rock at all, I can give you some that are really 80s pop style. I'm talking about stuff like Madonna, Blondie, Michael Jackson, that is pure, cheesy, 80s pop. The bands I listed are pop/rock, because I can't stand the cheesier stuff.
Agile AL-3000 Cherry Sunburst
Fender American Strat HSS
1981 Yamaha FG-335II
Crate V1512 (USA made)
Fender Frontman 15R
Dunlop Crybaby Slash Wah
MXR EVH Phase 90
Ibanez TS9 w/ Keeley Baked Mod
Boss SD-1
Boss DD-3

An easy way to identify 80's pop, if it has guitar that isn't played by Eddie Van Halen then it is not pop. If Eddie Van Halen is playing guitar, but David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar isn't singing, then it is pop. Ratt and Scorpions were definitely not pop. Van Halen, borderline, I'd say 1984 was pretty poppy.

I was going to make almost the exact same post. Thank you especially for metnioning Brian Eno, Kraftwerk and Tom Waits.

My additions would be:

OMD
The Psychadelic Furs
Madness
The Human League
Gary Numan
Happy Mondays
Ultravox
Echo & The Bunnymen

...I could go on but I won't

What one must realise about 80's pop is that most of it borrows from the New Wave sound. Where New Wave was more of an underground college radio type scene associated with somewhat with Punk Rock but even moreso with Post Punk, alot of the pop at the time borrowed heavily from New Wave which is why it's so easy to dismiss that sound as commercial and poppy. This style became especially diluted with inferior acts towards the latter half of the decade, but there are still many notable exceptions to this. I can see how it's easy to dismiss that syle as being corny, but such accusations come from knowing very little about that music.

Ps. Wham! sucks.
