I think most people do that, unless they're good at haggling and can manage to get the price down on stuff in person at GC.

Both have horrible customer service. I'd choose Guitar Center though since it's pretty close to where I live.

Guitar Center is fucking horrible.

A. Everytime I walk in there, almost no one has a sense of 'musician appreciation', meaning everyone would rather play as loud as fuck instead of giving everyone a chance to enjoy themselves.
B. They have no control in that fucking store, they let any kid just grab those $3000+ Gibsons off the wall, and fuck around with them.
C. The staff generally wants a sell, instead of a logical conversation on the instrument.
D. Everytime I walk in there, I pretty much continue building up my hearing loss because of all the 13 year olds trying to get as heavy and distorted as possible.

But Musiciansfriend isn't totally bad, I've got my fair of shit from there.

If it weren't for those damn 13 year olds, you'd have nothing to bitch about.

I guess we need to kill all 13 year olds, immediately.

No, I just used 13 year olds as a prime example, I wouldn't say its completely all them. And I'm not trying to come off like an angry bitch or anything, just everytime I go into a Guitar Center, the experience is ruined generally because of all that.
And I don't care for it very much.

People are entitled to play what they wanna play, and do what they wanna do. I don't care what music your into, fuck, just play whatever. But be respectful enough to the instruments, and the other people who are also just trying to get some of their licks in as well.

ME!!! I can work those sons of bitches all day until I get the price I want, just make sure you buy moere than one thing, and they'll always cut you a great deal.

I had to choose, I'd say GC because they will let you return a guitar in a month no questions asked. Unlike MF, if there's even a tiny little scratch, they won't let you return it. At GC you can at least try the guitar you want, but I still wouldn't buy from either stores.

What is better in your opinion?

I usually play whatever I want at Guitar Center, and then order it from Musician's Friend.

... hope your not talking about actual guitars.
#16
Try it out at GC, and then order it on MF. Its cheaper usually (unless you can haggle well) and there's no tax

oh...and I did that with my guitar...cost me exactly the price listed which saved me like $100-200 compared to buying it from a store

I have heard that Guitar Center owns Musician's friend so I don't know why they are two different entities, it makes no sense to me... But back to the topic I just ordered some recording equipment from Musicians Friend 3 weeks ago and they just 2 days ago sent me an email saying the order has been delayed for another 8-10 days. So I am not to happy with Musicians friend at the moment

LOL.

Same enterprise. Same as music123.com etc.

www.zzounds.com pwns all.

I ordered a Fender Highway One off guitarcenter.com, which in the website said it was available. They charged my credit card, then after 2-3 days, I check to see if they had shipped it, and it said backordered....WTF...then after sending 5 e-mails, I receive a response.

"We're sorry but your order is due Sept 12" (It was July 27th...) So I canceled, and even after that it took them 4 days to cancel the order and put the money back.

I was going to order from musiciansfriend.com or music123.com but I saw they're managed by the same enterprise. HORRIBLE by the ****ing way.

So I ordered a Parker P-30 off www.zzounds.com this past friday. IT SHIPPED THIS PAST FRIDAY.

www.zzounds.com enough said.

No, not every guitar company. Every or most instrument retailers.

Smaller music shops > both

except a lot of the time they arent dealerships of some of the bigger brands.

Someone from Harmony Central once said GC is like Walmart, and Musiciansfriend is like Walmart.com

Both crap, but you never know. A deal might come in a while, not those Volume 1 and 2 Futurama boxed sets for $19.99 each
#25
I live near both, like them equally. I bought my actual guitar from MF though, and I get the accessories and whatnot from GC. Also, from my experience, MF is generally cheaper.
#27
I don't usually purchase guitars from guitar center. If I go there, it's usually for anything else guitar related, such as pedals, cables, etc.

If I enjoy the guitars I try out there, then I consider ordering them from Musician's Friend, of AMS.

Arn't they both owned by the same corporation?

+1

All of the prices at Guitar Center are the same as Musician's Friend, unless there's a sale.

I noticed that the first time I went into Guitar Center.

So, the only thing to gripe about is whose service is better.

Musiciansfriend, for the variety alone. If I need to try a guitar out, then I'll go to the brick and mortars (not only GC but a family owned store near where I live...I get accessories there so to support them).

I like GC better- just because it's a hands on experience I can actually play the guitars and amps I want and it's just fun.

If I order off-line I will definitely choose Musiciansfriend

The local music stores in my town SUCK!

You can't pick anything up off the wall and if you play on the amps the old guys bitch at you.

I hate Guitar Center. but i still go there tho. I wanted a peavey 5150 212 combo that was marked $450 and i was going to evenly trade my double neck that was worth about 600 (list was 1200) and then they told me that the most they could give me was 200 for the guitar and wouldnt lower the price of the USED amp at all.
