no. my guitar teacher showed me two weeks ago about one fret chords after i told him who i was going to teach. he says he teaches them to younger kids who can't play the full chords. i'd ask him what they are but i dont have lessons until thursday, and i have to teach this kid today.
#9
Who told you about them? If it was some non-musician, they may have just meant for you to teach the names of individual notes.

What in the name of flying monkey's is a one-fret chord?

Do you mean like an E power chord, where you only have to fret one note cos of the open string?

no its none of them. he just kinda put his finger on one fret and played 3 strings and it sounded like the C chord but it wasn't in the C formation. I guess none of you have ever heard of it before, because his guitar wasn't in drop D. I'd know what to do if it was.

You're positive that he didn't just fret the root note with two opens after?

I think you mean open chords, like you only put one finger down and the other notes are all open.

Quote by dontcutmeoutXX
no it wasn't a power chord. I would have known if it was. It's just a way to play a chord in a really simple way so kids can play it.

I don't mean a power chord, I mean this:

0300xx
or for G
300xxx
A
x000xx

You are all oficially musically ignorant...this would be any place on the guitar that contains a root, third, fifth in any order in of any scale on three consecutive strings accross one fret...

xx555x = C major.

It's G,C,E or 5th, Root, 3rd

I was under the impression that he only fretted one note though.

A chord must consist of at least three notes....

You can't really play three notes on one fret can you?

Edit: So like....

You fret the third fret on the low E and call it a G chord?

That's stupid.

What about majors and minors?

I've only been playing for about a year, I switched after playing bass for 3 years. and I'm teaching a 7-year-old who has trouble paying attention for more than 30 seconds so its not that bad

it is only fretting one note. he called us all musically ignorant, but he's wrong too.

There's no such thing as a one note chord...I thought you said it was one fret accross three strings which is actually possible...

what the one-fret chords are? I have to teach a 7-year-old guitar and I can't find them anywhere.

if you missed it, I'm teaching a 7-year-old. He doesn't need to know majors and minors or anything, just enough to let him be able to play around with the guitar.

So what are you gonna do?

"if you put you finger there, its a C chord!!" "and put it there, its a G chord!"

I think i know what youre talking about. To form major chord you need the 1st, 3rd, and 5th note on your scale so if you want to do a C chord you need C,E and G notes it gives something like this:

----0-(E)--------- It is called an inversion I think
----1-(C)--------
----0-(G)----------
--------------------
--------------------
--------------------

The full chord:

------0-(E)------ In both cases you find the same notes so in theory both are C
------1-(C)------ chords only that one is easier
------0-(G)------
------2-(E)------
------3-(C)------
------------------

another example is the G chord The G scale is : G-A-B-C-D-E-F#

tHE 1st,3rd and 5th notes are : G-B-D

------3-(G)---
------0-(B)---
------0-(G)---
------0-(D)---
---------------
---------------

Full chord

------3---
------0---
------0---
------0---
------2---
------3---

and you do th same thing for all chord

The major chord formula is : 1-3-5 notes
The minor chord formula is: 1-3b-5 notes

Ok, but don't tell him that they are chords. Notes would be the proper term.

Am I the only one who learned the full chord straight away/thinks he should teach the full chords and if the 7-year old kid can't be bothered he shouldn't bother teaching him?
