They're not talking about hardcore punk, they're talking about "hardcore." It has little in common with its roots in the '80s.

First of all, I enjoy deathcore for it's complexity and it's the only genre heavy enough for me

Most of the good ones were said - The Faceless, Beneath The Massacre, BDM

but try- Whitechapel
As Eden Burns (basically like a melodic baby version of BDM)
Ion Dissonance
Architects
All Shall Perish

I love Whitechapel but they really wont help your skill level that much as there alot of chug chug. AEB i dont really know.

If you can figure out an Ion Dissonance song, or hell even what they tune to, you shall be my new hero.

Architects/All Shall Perish are great recs that I forgot to put in.

Ohhhhh, he said MORE than a chug chug player....i thought he wanted to BE a chug chug player ha. Thats why i said Whitechapel, cuz i knew they had some of the best Chug breakdowns out there, and i didn't want him to find the awful ones. Ha, ok, i get it now

If you're into BTBAM then checking out Glass Casket is a must, which is one of BTBAM's guitarist's side project. Desperate Man's Diary is where its at.

Try these songs:

Bad Brains - "Banned In D.C." (the solo, not really the rest of the song)
Black Flag - any of their wierd stuff, not as hard to play but it's a cool style
The Circle Jerks - not really anything particularly difficult, I don't know why I put this
D.R.I. - "Reaganomics" (just really the intro)
Damage - "The Dice" (No one I know has heard of this band)
Dead Kennedys - "Pull My Strings"
Discharge - "State Violence/State Control"
Government Issue - don't know why I put this
H2O - again, don't really know why I put this
MINUTEMEN - any song, helps you with wierd chords and ****
Reagan Youth - "Jesus Was A Communist"
Shadows Fall - pretty much anything, especially "The Light That Blinds"
Society's Parasites - "In the City"
Trivium - "Like Light To the Flies" (I don't like this song, but it's not easy to play)

Regardless of how hard they are, also, influence from all of these bands will help develop your style.

ill second primate primus.

if you wanna learn to be something more than being a chug chug player learn some porcupine tree, TREOS, etc or some **** .... amazing songwriters.

learn to add sounds, notes, instruments, and chords whatever else to make the song...not just cuz youre idly holding a guitar and need something to keep your fingers busy.

thats just my $0.02 anyway...
