hey, lookin at the peavey 6505 or 5150 head , whichever i can get a better deal on, just wonderin if u can get some good distortion out of them or is it better u use with a seperate distortion

They both pretty much sound the same IMO

the 6505 and 5150 are the same but with different names. and post in the mother of all 5150/6505 thread

well basically, the 5150 and 6505 are known for their brutal distortion

u won't need a pedal to get gd distortion with tht amp, the amp is well gd enough for it

Maybe because they are the same? The difference is the endorsement. The 6505 is the 5150, but without Eddie Van Halen. But the 5150 II and the 6505+ (the more expensive versions of the two) are different.

And the 5150/6505 has excellent distortion. Why would you think of ever using an outside source? It's the cleans, I think, that needs more work. But if EVH is using a 5150 for his cleans, I personally think that the cleans are fine. It isn't Fender cleans, but if you want Fender cleans, buy a Fender.

I myself would buy the 5150 over the 6505 just because of EVH.
