what are the best modern rock songs for moshing - my band has done covers of freak (silverchair) and prisoner of society (living end) except every cover we've done since then just doesnt get the crowd as involved! any help on finding songs that will get the crowd moshing / shouting lyrics as much as they do for freak - even more would be great!

Listen too the whole of the album Freak Show (Silverchair), it's insanely good and full of angst.

S.C.I.E.N.C.E. by Incubus has some good moshing songs too.

^ Agreed. Morello's riffs are pretty damn ideal for modern rock moshing.

Alice in Chains is also ideal. Cantrell's riffage in songs like Them Bones is just wicked.

Perhaps also try some material from Soundgarden's Batmotorfinger. Though, the music's more complex, and maybe Jesus Christ Pose is just a little too "busy" to mosh to.

Hysteria Knights of Cydonia and Stockholm Syndrome by Muse are particularly moshable.

Mic Check doesn't really either.

On that note, Cherub Rock would be good for some slow, majestic moshing.

21st century rock songs don't seem to be as moshable as songs from the past. Muse and QOTSA have some songs, then i'm scrapping the barrel.

alot of the harder songs by Pearl Jam are good. some songs already named like Leash, Once, and Go are great also Animal and Even Flow are good.

State of the Union - Rise Against

Not only does the heaviness of it kick your ass...but it's a **** you to George Bush and a **** you to war...should look up the lyrics, very awesome.
#24
thanks guys this is all good!

i recon one or more of these could b pretty good:

go - pearl jam
killing in the name - rage against the machine
megalomaniac - incubus
no one knows - queens of the stone age
#25
pshhh... the prob with megalomaniac is that is has the slow melodic verses, you need to dig deep into Incubus's past to get some kick ass moshable songs (Shaft, Take me to your leader, etc). Theres also this incredible part in the song Nebula that is really fun to mosh to.
#29
Knights of Cydonia - Muse (especially that end riff, and you sing the guitar parts)
Arcarsenal - At The Drive-In
Even Flow - Pearl Jam
Bullet With Butterfly Wings - Smashing Pumpkins
Most RATM songs, but Killing In The Name, Freedom, Guerrilla Radio and Bulls On Parade are goodies.

Smashing Pumpkins - Tarantula
QOTSA - Sick x3
Taking Back Sunday - Decade Under The Influence, Timberwolves @ New Jersey, Set Phasers To Stun, The union
The Used - Take It Away (maybe too heavy for mod rock but it's my fave mosh song )
Lostprophets - Shinobi, Last Train Home, Make A Move, F.S.O.P.

lots more but they float my mosh boat the most

A better moshing song by the Smashing Pumpkins would probably be Zero.

^And dude, I think The Used hardly qualifies as heavy. The heavier parts of songs are just so forced, it's annoying (IMO, of course).
