I always had trouble with that part, but recently I figured out how to do it. You just need to practice a particular picking pattern. It may help to see how it can be done. Here is a link to my MOP "middle section" YouTube video.

It's pretty ok for me, but i have really short fingers so i have to strain myself to do that stretch every time. And when i'm straining, it's really hard to do fluent hammer-on/pull offs so i just alternate pick those notes really fast. Try doing that, might work for you.

That was the harder part for me to learn. It took me months to get those pull-off clearly. However is not impossible. My advice is to practice it on clean without distortion.
Besides being a guitar player, I'm a big fan of the guitar. I love that damn instrument. Steve Vai

Nah dude just practice it real slow and work up to it. It's just some normal shredding stuff.

Thats not shredding, it's a poor attempt at it.

practice very slowly with a metronome.
the stretch is probably whats killing you so try some strecthing exercises.

It's not hard at all.
But it's not just you either, theres thousands of other beginners.
Don't take that as insult though, everyones gotta start somewhere.

Is it not better to use the method of slowing it down in audacity ?
In one of youre youtube videos you show how to do that...

try to Bar the 12th Fret, so u can pull off from the 17th then do that 13-12-13 right next to it.

I'm glad you like my video. I mostly use that Audacity technique when I'm trying to transcribe a song and I need to slow down a rapid series of notes to hear them better. However, I don't see any reason why it couldn't be used for practicing. I do use the speed trainer feature in Guitar Pro though, usually starting out at around 75% speed and increasing in small increments to 100%. In fact, I perfected this part of the solo by doing just that.

I agree with SiKh22 that the 12th fret should be barred with your index finger when playing that part. Also, I believe I am picking every note of the solo instead of trying to throw those pull-offs in there. It's much easier for me that way.

I never had a problem with that stretch though, and I don't consider myself to have huge hands... 12th fret to 17th fret on the 1st string is nothing really. Are those of you who are having problems with the stretch keeping your thumbs pretty pretty low on the back of the neck? If not, it might help to do so.
