I just saw one of my songs (Black Oblivion) in another account over the internet, some bastard stole it from me..
Luckily, after the first incident I always copyright my songs via library (I pay a lot but I get documentation that they belong to me)..

But it kinda flatters me that my songs are so good that people wanna steal them

I got very angry but the dude took it off.

Anything like this ever happened to you ?

I once saw a piece of my digital art on someone elses site, admittedly the picture was total crap, but I felt violated anyway.

So imagine spending 4 hours composing a song, 8 hours recording, mixing, producing it and then seeing it at a 13 year old douchebag's website claiming the comments..

Maybe you should just make crappy music from now on, so people wont steal it.

Wait a second......

Holy crap I just figured out ACDC.

Wait...you saw it?

As in, you saw someone had a song called "Black Oblivion?" Because if that's the case, then how do you know someone else didn't just use the same song name? There are lots of songs that have the same name.

However, if you really do mean you went and listened to it and it's the exact same song, then I'm glad they took it down and I can understand how you would be pissed.

And where do you copyright them? For future reference, that may come in handy.

Why would someone steal a song that's called "Black Oblivion"?
and if he actually has, why the hell won't he change the name of the song?
what a stupid thing to do...

Steve The Plank thank you very much

yeah, I spent 4 hours composing it..
8 hours to record it , mix it and produce it.. That means I had to go through compressors, velocity ranges, etc etc etc etc..

My ex uncle Carlos (he was the husband of my aunt, but he died many years ago), was a good friend of a very known Argentinian rock star (Charlie Garcia). Suddenly, one day Charlie publishes a song that Carlos wrote. And after that, EVERY time that Carlos tried to reach Charlie, Charlie for some reason was unavailable.

Don't know if it's true, but my grandmother told me about that.

Indeed, why does your user name seem familiar?

If you want to copyright your music, mail yourself a copy of the recordings and don't open it.

Ever watched any Halo 2 videos? I used to be pretty well known in that scene.

No, I send it to special music libraries and they send me back documentation proving I own those songs..
But that was so cheap ffs, lol.. He's glad I didn't sue his ass and his balls.

How does that work?

And I think that song's really good. Infact, I added you to my myspace fairly recently, I was so impressed with it, and I hate having bands in my friends list!

you have obviously never tried recording. or recording well at least.

btw can you tell me how to do this copyrighting technique? how cheap is it?
#24
I've heard that what Gyroscope said - be it with recordings, a piece of writing, whatever. If you have an unopened envelope that's been stamped by the Post Office or whatever and dated, then it's like self-copywriting. Not 100% sure how it works but it kinda makes sense.

I have had all my more recent ones stolen from the Tabs & Chords section.

I was snooping around myspace and some guy has the MIDI files uploaded there.

I guess it's not that bad though, since they're not recorded yet, and i've got 'em copywrited.

If you want legitimate copyrighting it's going to cost you a certain amount of money.. I paid $45 for 5 songs.

I send them a package with a cd of the songs inside and the money enclosed of course..
When they receive it they create a blog with your name etc but the documents regarding the songs take 3 months to arrive but don't worry , your name will be there and your songs as well.

TBH, I can't see that it really matters, unless they steal it, record it and make a sh*tload of money off your song without crediting you.

I've heard of that copyrighting techinique before (the mailing it to yourself) and I'm sure I've read that it isn't legitimate, and that it wouldn't stand up in court.
