Ticket to see Van Halen, or a new guitar amp?

Reasons to get the ticket:

-It's Van Halen (in a way)
-I've wanted to see them ever since I discovered them
-It's a once-in-a-lifetime event

Reasons not to get the ticket:

-It's not the REAL Van Halen (without Mike, it's not the same)
-They won't be the same
-There is a possibilty it will last, and their is a chance they might have another tour

Reasons to get an amp:

-I'm using an MG15DFX
-If I had an amp, I could start/join a band
-Anything is better than what I'm using
-It will help me explore more tonal oppurtunities

Reasons not to get an amp:

-I could get one another time
-I could see Van Halen instead
-My parents don't want noise

That last one... I really don't care, because I myself have volume limits too- it just happens to be louder than my parents would like.

As for the amp I'd get, I would prefer something in the $500 price range, and possibly stretch it more if I could get the ValveKing212, but if I couldn't, I was thinking of settling for a Spider III, the biggest one I could get.

I'm not asking which amp to get, because I would easily choose the Peavey if I had the money. I already have a list of choices in my head, depending on my funds. So that said, I believe it would belong here. Please, don't suggest any amps... I already have found several.

I'm asking which to get for my birthday- an amp or tickets. And if you don't like Van Halen, pretend it's a band that you love, but they split up a long time ago, and they replaced one of their members with the son of the lead guitarist, and they had their original lead singer, but they won't be the same stylistically.

I'd get either one for my birthday, but my family is short of money, and if I got the ticket, I wouldn't get an amp until next year, and if I got the amp, there might not be a tour again.

Van Halen may die in a car crash tomorrow.

Amps will be around even after that.

The choice is yours.

Van Halen.

Wait, why isn't this the 'real' Van Halen? Is it a cover band or something?

Sorry, not to up to date on Van Halen, haven't listened to them before (Egad!).

Well, they don't have their bassist... it's the son of Eddie Van Halen. Other than that, it's the real Van Halen. But the original bassist, Mike, was such an asset to the band.

It's no big deal if you haven't heard them before. I haven't heard many of the bands other people speak so fondly of on UG...

If i were you i would sell the MG. buy a nice quarter with the money you'd make from selling that hunk of junk and go to that concert blazed as ****. Its a win-win situation

The polls seem to have a 50% split- 7-7... I still have a few days to weigh my options... I suppose I should even see if I have a way to get down to Chicago to see the show. I live in south central Wisconsin, close to the WI/IL border, and I don't drive. And none of the adults I know like Van Halen...

Why would I buy, when I could get it free from some associates?

Last concert I went to, I didn't get high or anything... I still felt sick from the night before. Ah... beer pong... it should become an olympic sport...

Well, it is Van Halen!
So go for the amp.

Anyway, being serious for a minute, you can always get a part time job and work towards the amp.

tough choice... i'd go with the amp and sell you're current one for the the tickets, but that's just me...

Ticket, this is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity, and besides you can just save up and get an amp later, meanwhile if you got the amp instead, youl get it earlyer, but no van halen
?!
#26
Amp, as long as its not a Spider. Seriously, you don't want to just settle on a crappy amp because you don't have enough money. Try out 5-15 tube amps in your price range, and see what you can find. Maybe a Vox Valvetronix.

If Van Halen is your favorite band then go for them. Last time I heard about Eddie, he was doing music for pornos.

Well its Van Halen... with DLR. With his track record i doubt that there will be a another tour or even finish this one . So buy the ticket and when they quit the tour halfway through, you get your money back and buy your amp.
The internet kicks my ass on a regular basis.

Reminds me of my Bass/Saxophone dilemma.

Go for the ticket. David Lee Roth with Van Halen..who knows how long it'll last this time around..and it really IS Van Halen, the bass player doesn't make much difference when it comes to them honestly, as they've always been much more of a guitar/vocal oriented band than a band about fancy basslines. *Cough*Running With The Devil*Cough*

Yeah... I've been leaning closer to Van Halen...

But, just wondering... why would one choose an amp?

I think I made my mind up. I'll go with the tickets. If I get some, great, if not, I'll be getting an amp. I haven't fully decided which amp it would be, as of yet. I put Spider III as my second choice behind the VK212 because it (spider) seems to have good tone for distortion, and the clean is supposed to be good. Also, I was looking at the 150W version.

So yeah... my family's tight on money right now, and being Van Halen with Dave, I don't think those tickets are going to be sitting there long. I also don't know the cost of tickets, and I was hoping that I could possibly get some sort of VIP ticket, but those are probrably way too expensive... there's a 4 and five star pack, I'll see if they've announced anything for Chicago, and check LiveNation.

Otherwise, if the show is sold out before I can buy... I'll be at least satisfied with a new amp, and possibly a new Van Halen CD, courtesy of David Lee Roth.

Selling my MG, however, is NOT an option. It's the only amp I own. How am I to play an electric guitar without an amp? It's not the same when it's unplugged. And I plan on keeping it after I get a decent amp (hopefully that VK212 I've been drooling over ever since I first saw it) just in case I needed to bring an amp somewhere, and it wouldn't be practical to bring a big amp.

EVH, im not a fan myself, but you answered your own question, you can save up after abit more and get a good amp, whereas you may not be able to save up and see Van Halen again.
#40
I'll be getting a ValveKing 212. The tickets are too expensive, and already running low, and by the time I could possibly conjure up enough money, they'll be sold out.

I'm gonna be trying out several amps soon- including the VK212 and the Spider III, among others. And I'm looking for something with 100W, preferably 212, I need power. But I'll decide on the amp for myself. I just won't be able to afford or find any tickets.
