nightwish..
the female singer is operatic and the male mostly does some backing, but sometimes takes the lead part.

Yeah. Mates of State is a band consisting of a married couple. They rock. Another good band with a male lead singer and female lead singer is Stars. Then last, but not least one of the most kick ass girl/boy bands ever is Tilly and the Wall.

the song "yankee bayonet" by the decemberists has some nice dual vocals -- not every song by the band has them, but that song does

and btw nightwish is like symphonic metal so don't go into it expecting indie-esque things. from what i've heard from people who like symphonic metal they aren't bad, so i'm not going to trash them, but just a heads up

Heavy Vegetable had a lot of male/female duets between Rob and Elea. My Bloody Valentine also. The Pixies occasionally.

Damien Rice,
Leonard Cohen uses female singers alot
Just Like Honey by the Jesus and Mary Chain sounds great aswell.
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior and shove you in the ground
But you'll stick your head back out and shout "we'll have another round"!

I suggest looking into Stars. They're a Canadian indie band.

Get "Set Yourself on Fire" - it's amazing.

EDIT: Also check out Arcade Fire (you probably already have).

Yeah, but Arcade Fire don't really have much classic duets. Songs are singed by Win or by Regine and the other one can only yell in the choruses.
Most of the time.

Crawl Home- Desert Sessions. Leonard Cohen likes using female backing singers. The Future is a good song that shows it. Addicted to the song. Bloody song is too good.
It's gonna be a blue day
