I don't really get why everyone likes the DS-1 so much. I've bought it half a year ago, and it sounds really thin to me (I used it on different amps). When the pedal is off, I get a really nice, warm and rich sound. When I turn the pedal on, this wide sound is lost, and I get an annoying buzzing sound which sounds very thin and cold. Will modding solve this, or should I get another pedal? And am I the only one experiencing this?

I think maybe you're particular pedal may be the problem.

I have a DS-1 and I love it. Admittedly I don't have a hell of a lot of experience with pedals. But I can get some really get tones from it.

There is a tone knob on there. Have you tried using that?
Yes, it does thin out your sound a decent amount but it's cheap, easy, decent distortion. That is why it's so popular.

You also shouldn't expect tube amp overdrive/distortion sounds from a pedal (unless it actually has a tube in it)

Yeh, nobody really likes it over an overdriven tube amp, but for what it is, its good IMO, you cant get a better dist for the same price, but as soon as you start going over the price, there are much better ODs/Dist on the market.

yep its a bit thin but turn the tone knob less than 5 and you should get warm tones.

Your tone knob should be less than 12 o clock, or your distortion would sound thin and weak.

Part of the problem could be that you're using it on a modelling amp, they don't tend to take too well to distortion pedals.
A dwarf might hear you. What then?

Question. What would modding do to it/ did to it? And how would a person do this?

ok. my english is poor so i don't know if u understand wat i am gonna describe.

after i mod my ds-1, it has a more 'fierce' sound, distortion. palm muting sounds much better as it has more bass, better sound clarity. still sounds thin when tone knob's over 12oclock though.

i'm now looking fwd to buy a cheap used mt-2 and mod it. see if it still suck.

The pedal was the problem. I've now modded it into a Keeley DS-1, with the Ultra and the All Seeying Eye mod. It sounds much better now, and it only cost me 13 euros on parts. If you've got a soldering iron and 2 days off, I really advise anyone who has a DS-1 to do the same.
